Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
Operates switchboard to relay incoming and outgoing calls and
pages. Greets and directs all lobby visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School education or equivalent experience in hospital or
medical office related setting. Previous experience with PBX board;
good communication skills; good telephone skills; ability to
concentrate on tasks in high traffic area; maintain information as
highly confidential; good organization and priority setting skills;
empathy; attention to detail; basic typing skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES/STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
* Adheres to facility standards concerning conduct, dress,
attendance, punctuality, and meal & rest breaks.
* Maintains confidentiality of facility employees and patient
information.
* Adheres to facility and department policies and procedures and
complies with the Corporate Compliance Program and the Standards of
Conduct.
* Maintains proper boundaries when interacting with patients and
their families, visitors, professional staff, vendors, and
co-workers.
* Offers and accepts constructive feedback in peer and supervisory
relationships modifies behavior in response to feedback.

* Supports facility internal and external customer service

staff members, patients, visitors, and clinicians.

placement in employment records.
Safety Rules and Procedures/Infection Control
* Complies with safety and security policies and procedures,
including reporting of incidents and injuries and responding to
codes.
* Keeps workspace clean and free of work hazards, follows hospital
hazard communication program. Maintains equipment in safe working
order, reports problems to supervisor and/or maintenance.
* Complies with hospital policy regarding identification badge.
* Practices Standard Precautions.
* Essential Functions/Job Skills
* Greets visitors, patients, and families in a professional manner.
Assists and directs individuals as necessary.
* Processes incoming and outgoing telephone calls clearly and
efficiently within three rings or less on a continuing basis.
* Accepts messages for Administrative personnel and ensures all
messages are distributed on a daily basis.
* Reports all equipment problems to Supervisor and/or Support
Services Director.
* Accepts and processes patient payments, employee meal ticket
sales, COBRA payments and postage on a daily basis.
* Receive and record any money that comes over the counter after
business hours.
* Initiates routine paging clearly and efficiently.
* Initiates emergency paging upon receiving alarm or call with
clarity and in a calm manner.
* Appropriate response to hospital codes as defined in PBX Policy &
Procedure Manual.
* Assists other departments with:
* Stuffing envelopes.
* Putting labels on envelopes.
* Addressing envelopes.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Pre-sorts all hospital mail.
* Coordinate initial assessment paperwork with A&R
department.
* As time permits, compile paperwork for patient admit packs as
well as document certifications in the patient account system.
* Is willing to assume additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for
long distances.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working,
primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in
handling.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and
palm.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken
word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or
important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly,
or quickly.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40db
loss @ Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication,
and to make fin discriminations in sound, such as when making fine
adjustments on machined parts.
Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist,
hands, and/or fingers.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to
lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the
human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs
are sedentary if walking and standing are required only
occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND OTHER WORK AIDES:
Knowledge of PBX operations; calculator, copy machine operation;
minimal typing.

Qualifications
Experience: Two (2) years experience on a multi-line telephone
switchboard, preferably in a heath care environment and any
combination of education, training, or experience in a hospital
environment. Additional Requirements: May be required to work
occasional overtime and flexible hours.
