DESCRIPTION

The Transportation Civil Engineer provides technical support to Project Managers on general Transportation and/or Traffic engineering design projects; primarily responsible for roadway/highway plans, specifications, and estimates, analysis, calculations, field investigations, preparation of report exhibits/tables, traffic, ITS design and report writing in support of Transportation Engineering analysis studies and projects.

You will be a member of our Transportation Group in the Inland Empire and may sit in Ontario, Temecula or Palm Desert offices and you will have a flexible work schedule. You should have an interest in learning various aspects of Transportation design engineering, traffic operations and analysis, and overall transportation infrastructure.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparing construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Develop and review concept development studies for transportation improvement projects
  • Daily communication with the Project and Task Managers on key issues and project progress.
    Prepares moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Occasionally visits work site(s), reporting findings to more experienced engineers and/or project managers.
  • Preparing traffic engineering and ITS design plans, signing and striping, traffic signal, ITS, traffic handling, stage construction, lighting, etc.
  • Performing traffic analysis and calculations, which includes occasional field investigations
  • Writing and preparing traffic analysis and technical reports
  • Reviewing and analyzing the operational performance of facilities
  • Produces plans, designs, and analyzes data on civil roadway engineering projects. Specific civil engineering tasks include horizontal and vertical geometric design, preparation of design calculations, quantity calculations, construction specifications
  • Assisting project managers and more experienced engineers in ensuring that project/task schedules and budgets are met
  • Responsible for ensuring work efforts for assigned tasks fall within established budgets
  • Coordinates with technicians to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house training
  • Other duties as assigned
    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with coursework relevant to working in the transportation engineering field
    • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
    • EIT Certification is preferred, but not required
    • California P.E. license is preferred, but not required
    • An eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs
    • The ability to communicate and effectively participate as part of an engineering team
    • Computer knowledge/experience with the following is a huge plus: AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
    • Experience with Caltrans and Local standards is a plus
